HexFlex Primer

The first coat matters more than any other.

If the primer doesn't bond properly, nothing that goes on top of it will either. HexFlex Primer is a water-based flexible primer built specifically for the substrates that standard primers fail on. Foam, polystyrene, fabric, mixed-material builds. It goes on clean, bonds properly, and stays flexible through everything that follows.

No cracking at the edges. No lifting between coats. Just a solid base that the rest of your finish can rely on.

Why Primer Before Paint

Skipping primer is the most common reason a paint job fails early.

Foam and polystyrene are porous, uneven surfaces. Without a primer coat, paint sits in the high spots and pulls away from the low ones. You get uneven coverage, poor adhesion, and a finish that starts deteriorating the moment anything puts pressure on it.

HexFlex Primer seals the surface and gives the paint something consistent to bond to. Coverage improves. Colour payoff improves. The finished build holds up the way it should.

Heat Sealing and Priming

For foam builds, heat sealing the surface before priming gives you the smoothest possible base. A heat gun or hairdryer run lightly over the foam closes the surface cells and removes the texture that would otherwise show through your finish coats.

Prime over the sealed surface and you have a build that's ready to take colour properly.

If you're working fast or the surface texture isn't a concern, HexFlex Primer applies direct to foam without heat sealing. It still bonds, still flexes, still performs.

Application

Apply in thin coats and allow to dry between passes. Drying time at room temperature is around three hours, though a heat gun or hairdryer brings that down to twenty or thirty minutes.

HexFlex Primer can be thinned with water for airgun application if you're covering large areas. Brush or roller application works well for detail work and smaller builds.

Once primed, the surface is ready for HexFlex Paint, metallics, or any water-based topcoat.

Part of the HexFlex System

HexFlex Primer is the foundation of the HexFlex flexible coating system. Primer, paint, metallics, aerosol and sealer, all formulated to work together from first coat to final finish.

Using the full system gives you consistent flexibility and adhesion across every layer of the build, not just the topcoat.
