Features
  • Excellent Dimensional Stability: Finnboard does not warp as easily as traditional grey board, making it essential for models that must maintain tight tolerances over time.
  • High Workability: Exceptionally easy to cut with a scalpel or craft knife, producing clean, sharp edges. It is also highly receptive to sanding, allowing for the refinement of chamfered edges and smooth joints.
  • Lightweight Performance: Significantly lighter than grey board, which is a major advantage when transporting large site models or designing suspended film props.
  • Natural Composition: Made from pure ground wood pulp, providing a distinct, "warm" aesthetic compared to industrially processed white or grey boards. Note: As a natural product, it is not lightfast and will darken slightly when exposed to direct sunlighta quality often embraced by modellers for an "aged" timber look.

Description

Finnboard (Finnish Wood Pulp Board) Natural Beige

Finnboard, also known as Finnish wood pulp board, is widely regarded as the premier choice for professional architectural model making. Composed of pure, nature-coloured ground wood pulp, it offers a warm, ivory-beige aesthetic and a slightly textured surface that adds a natural character to structural studies. Notably lighter in weight than grey board and significantly more resistant to warping, it is a versatile and reliable material for high-precision construction.

Applications:

  • Architectural Model Making: The most frequently used paperboard in the field. Its ease of processing makes it ideal for building massing models, topographic studies, and internal structural details. The natural beige tone is favoured for its ability to represent timber, masonry, or sand-blasted concrete at various scales.
  • Film & TV Scenic Design: A cost-effective material for creating lightweight set mock-ups, prop cores, or decorative textured panels. It is easily painted and can be aged or distressed to simulate traditional building materials.
  • Industrial Prototyping: Useful for quick-turnaround volumetric studies. Its structural stability and low weight allow for the assembly of large-scale mock-ups without the sagging common in standard cardboards.
  • Graphic Design & Display: The slightly uneven, organic surface provides a sophisticated backdrop for mounting high-quality sketches or as a substrate for physical mood boards.
