Description
Laser-Grade MDF Sheets
Laser-Grade Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) is the industry-standard substrate for precision structural modelling, jigs, and prototype assembly. Characterised by its incredibly smooth surface finish on both sides and a consistent internal density, this board is specifically engineered to produce clean, charred-minimal edges when processed with CO laser systems. Highly rigid yet easily sandable, it serves as a versatile foundation for both robust architectural frameworks and delicate, interlocking mechanical components.
Applications:
- Architectural Model Making: The definitive material for structural massing, floor plates, and internal partitions. Its flat, neutral surface is ideal for depicting large-scale urban developments or acting as a stable substrate for applied veneers and textures.
- Laser Cutting & Engraving: Specifically selected for its low glue content, which ensures a cleaner cut and reduces "flare-up" during laser processing. When cut with living-hinge patterns, even 3.0mm sheets can achieve surprising flexibility, perfect for curved desk tidies and organic forms.
- Industrial Prototyping: A staple for creating workshop jigs, templates, and volumetric mock-ups. Its compatibility with mini electric tools allows for rapid post-laser adjustments, such as drilling, milling, or fine-profile sanding.
- Furniture & Product Design: Used to develop early-stage 1:5 or 1:10 scale furniture mock-ups, allowing designers to test joinery and structural integrity before moving to expensive hardwoods.
Technical Specifications:
- Material: Laser-Grade Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF)
- Finish: Smooth, double-sided
- Safety: Always wear a P2 or P3 dust mask when cutting or sanding to protect against fine particulates
Technical Tip: For a professional aerosol finish, we recommend sealing the edges and faces with diluted PVA or a dedicated primer to prevent the porous fibres from absorbing excessive moisture.
