Description
Seawhite Greyboard
The Premium Rigid Standard for High Stability Bookbinding and Architectural Modelling
Seawhite Greyboard is a high grade, rigid Dutch greyboard specifically designed for professional architectural model making, bookbinding, 3D prototyping, and structural craft projects. Produced by Seawhite of Brighton, this premium material is completely acid and chlorine free, ensuring it will not degrade or discolour over time. It provides a highly stable, uniform, and warp resistant substrate that holds fine details exceptionally well when cut, making it a reliable foundational medium for designers and makers.
Key Performance Features
- High Grade Dutch Rigidity: Engineered for structural strength, providing a dense and solid feel that effectively resists bending under its own weight.
- Archival Quality: Completely acid and chlorine free composition prevents the material from becoming brittle or breaking down over time.
- Warp Resistant Stability: The uniform density offers excellent flat performance, making it highly reliable for flat backing applications and heavy structural components.
- Versatile Range Options: Available in multiple sheets sizes and thicknesses to perfectly accommodate everything from delicate partition work to heavy duty structural bases.
Working with Seawhite Greyboard
To achieve clean lines and durable joints in your architectural and scale models, keep the following structural best practices in mind:
- Successive Cutting Technique: Avoid attempting to cut all the way through the thick board in a single stroke. For the cleanest edges, use a heavy duty utility knife or a fresh scalpel blade against a metal safety ruler, making three to four light, successive passes. This avoids slipping and ensures a perfectly vertical cut line.
- Moisture Controlled Adhesives: Standard liquid PVA glues can introduce too much moisture, which can cause the porous board to buckle during the drying process. For structural joints, use a specialised bookbinding glue with low water content, a thick universal glue, or a rapid setting wood glue. Always apply a thin, even layer to ensure uniform absorption without pooling.
- Seamless Edge Sanding: The dense edges of this high quality board can be smoothly sanded down or bevelled using fine grit sandpaper, such as 240 to 400 grit. This technique is highly effective for creating seamless corner joints and flush surfaces.
