Styrofoam

Styrofoam is a fantastic model making material. It can be cut and sanded into all manner of shapes and designs, and forms a lightweight building block for your model.

Score the cut line

The easiest way to cut Styrofoam is to score it and snap it. Score your cut line, then run the blade through again, cutting deeper with each cut. Go as deep as you can.

Snap it

Line up the cut line with the edge of your work bench and snap off the cut section.

Tidy up the edge

Gently sand the cut edge with sandpaper until you have a nice clean finish.

Straight cut

If your knife has a blade long enough to cut all the way through the Styrofoam, keep the blade as vertical as possible and work your way through from the score line.
