How to mark out elevations on card and cut them out.

Mark out your elevations

You can do this in two ways: draw directly onto the card, or print out the elevations. Attach printed elevations with a light coat of spray mount glue, to hold the drawing in place while you make the cuts.

Applying a permanent elevation

If you want to stick the elevations to the card permanently, spray the glue onto both the card and the paper, in a well ventilated space. Leave them for a few minutes until the glue becomes tacky, then stick them together, smoothing over the paper to form a permanent bond.

Prepare for the cut

Place the metal rule on top of the elevation, so that you cut away the waste card. If you slip, there will be no damage to the elevation. You cannot do this when cutting windows and internal angles, so take extra care there.

Make the cut

Hold the knife firmly but without gripping too hard, keep it as vertical as possible, and start to make your cut. It is important not to push too hard: let the blade find its way through the material, making as many cuts as you need to cut through the card.

Take your time

Repeat the process until the elevation is completely cut out.
